Prairie Meadows Donates $5,000 to the Des Moines “I Have a Dream” Foundation

Des Moines, IA – The Des Moines “I Have a Dream” Foundation (IHDF) recently received a $5,000 Betterment Grant from Prairie Meadows to help fund the Dreamer Academy at Findley Elementary School. The Dreamer Academy takes a future-focused approach to education by immersing scholars in a culture of college and careers, beginning in Kindergarten, for all students and their families. Prairie Meadows is a nonprofit business dedicated to lessening the burden of government by promoting economic development, jobs, agriculture, and tourism in the state of Iowa.

“With support from Prairie Meadows, we can continue to educate our Findley Dreamer Academy scholars in a complete culture of college and careers,” I Have a Dream CEO Emily Westergaard said. “This culture is reinforced through annual college visits, college and career programming, and college savings accounts offered to every Findley scholar.”

The Des Moines “I Have a Dream” Foundation takes a proactive approach to increased high school graduation rates by putting students on the path to college and career success. The Dreamer Academy model incorporates academic assistance, social support, mentoring, parent programming, and college savings accounts, and is entirely funded through the generous support of local donors and organizations, like Prairie Meadows.

“As a nonprofit organization, Prairie Meadows fulfills its mission by giving back to organizations that support arts and culture, education, economic development, and human services. We are excited to see the impact this project will have on our Central Iowa community,” said Julie Stewart, Prairie Meadows’ Director of Community Relations.
